The John Chafee Award for Distinguished Public Service is named for the late Senator John Chafee of Rhode Island. John Chafee demonstrated that public service is an honorable profession, that working out our differences is a worthwhile effort, and that respecting all people in a diverse society is essential to the success of democracy and all that we stand for as a nation.
