(Washington, D.C.) – Today, former U.S. Rep. Tom Davis (R-VA), current President and CEO of Main Street, issued the following statement on the Senate Finance Committee’s vote on healthcare reform legislation:

“Today’s vote in the Senate Finance Committee will be rendered meaningless if Democratic leadership chooses to craft the final healthcare reform bill without meaningful bipartisan input.

“If we are going to pass healthcare reform legislation during this Congress, then we need Senator Reid, as well as the Democratic leadership in the House, to commit to a truly bipartisan process in the coming weeks.

“Today’s vote is also a reminder that expensive, ineffective, divisive and unpopular items – like the government option – are not feasible in this environment. The final healthcare reform bill should focus on those items that enjoy wide, bipartisan support and whose passage would make quality affordable healthcare less expensive and more available to millions of Americans.”
