(Washington, D.C.) - This week, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), announced a new healthcare "compromise" that would allow states to opt-out of any public option. In response, former U.S. Rep. Tom Davis (R-VA), President of the Republican Main Street Partnership, issued the following statement:

"Instead of looking for creative ways to repackage and re-sell the divisive, expensive and unpopular 'public option,' Senator Reid should focus on those solutions that enjoy wide bipartisan support.

"Main Street member U.S. Senator Olympia Snowe (R-ME) expressed her deep disappointment at Senator Reid's move. We echo that sentiment and urge Senator Reid and the Democratic majorities in both chambers to work with centrists to pass meaningful healthcare reform legislation."
