(Washington, D.C.) – Today, Democratic leadership in the House is expected to bring their healthcare reform bill, H.R. 3962, to the floor for a vote. In response, former U.S. Rep. Tom Davis (R-VA), President and CEO of the Republican Main Street Partnership, issued the following statement:

“House Democrats have intentionally crafted a bill without input from Republicans. This partisan process has resulted in a decidedly partisan bill – Democrats shouldn’t be surprised when no Republicans vote for this flawed bill.

“The bottom line is that we will not have meaningful healthcare reform pass this Congress without a real bipartisan process. Few issues are as important, or as personal, to Americans as healthcare, which makes the need for a real commitment to bipartisanship even more important.

“It’s time Democrats abandon efforts to push controversial and ineffective proposals like the ‘public option,’ and instead work with centrists to craft common-sense bipartisan solutions that will expand access, lower costs and improve the quality of care.”
