(Washington, D.C.) – Yesterday, the Democratic-controlled House joined the Democratic-controlled Senate in voting to raise the debt ceiling by almost $2 trillion. In response, former U.S. Rep. Tom Davis (R-VA), President of the Republican Main Street Partnership, issued the following statement:
Democrats voted for the single largest increase in the debt ceiling in our history. This vote comes despite all the happy talk from this administration and from Congressional Democrats about the need to deal seriously with the growing problem of the national debt.
“The current leadership in Washington cannot continue to write checks on the back of future generations of Americans. Actions speak louder than words and the time for this Congress to act to reign in this growing debt is now.”
The Republican Main Street Partnership (RMSP) is dedicated to promoting and building a pragmatic, thoughtful, fiscally conservative, and inclusive “Governing Majority,” where political debate is encouraged to promote solutions to improve the lives of all Americans.
