(Washington, D.C.) – "Today, former U.S. Rep. Charles F. Bass, President of the Republican Main Street Partnership, urged lawmakers in Washington to quickly find a bipartisan solution to the current economic crisis. “Now is the time for politicians on both sides of the aisle to put aside partisanship and work to find meaningful solutions to the economic crisis gripping the American economy,” said Bass. “I understand that we are in the middle of election season, but the magnitude of this crisis requires that our leaders take a break from politics and work together to craft legislation that will strengthen and protect our economy.”

Bass went on to urge lawmakers to refrain from using the economic bail out legislation as a vehicle to pass individual pet projects. “I urge members of both parties to show restraint during the next few days. I know that some will view this must pass, must sign legislation as an opportunity to move some of their own pet projects forward,” continued Bass. “Nothing would send a worse message to the American people then the cynical manipulation of critical legislation.”

“Main Street and our centrist elected members are focused on finding pragmatic, bipartisan solutions to the challenges facing our country; and now, more then ever, we need more members of Congress to join us in putting aside petty partisanship and doing the work that the American people need us – and expect us – to do,” concluded Bass.
