(Washington, D.C.) – “By failing to consider critical tax extenders legislation, already passed by a bipartisan majority in the Senate, House Democrats are undermining the long term health of the American economy. This bill contains several vital tax extensions, including an extension of the already lapsed Research and Development (R&D) tax credit that enjoys wide bipartisan support.

“The R&D tax credit, first created more than 25 years ago, spurs innovation, economic growth and the creation of high-paying jobs here in the U.S. The extension of this crucial tax credit, which expired at the end of 2007, should be a top priority for the Democratic leadership in the House.

“With the House scheduled to return on Thursday to consider a financial bailout package, Democratic leaders still have time to consider and pass the Senate tax extenders legislation. The window of opportunity is about to close and the time for action is now.”
