(Washington, D.C.) – Today, the Republican Main Street Partnership called on Congress to act to end the current energy crisis. “It is time for Congressional leadership to find bipartisan solutions to the energy crisis that is gripping our nation,” said former U.S. Rep. Charles F. Bass, President and CEO of Main Street. “The American people deserve more than sound bites and election year political games.”

“Roughly three weeks remain before the August recess; the time for Congressional action is now,” continued Bass. “With gas prices spiraling out of control, and families feeling the crunch at the pump, it would be a dereliction of their responsibility for Democratic leadership to fail to act.”

Gas prices have climbed to over $4.00/gallon nationally and the effect of rising gas prices have spilled over into almost every sector of the economy.

“Centrist Republicans stand ready to work across party lines to deliver real solutions to the challenges that face our nation – and no challenge is more important to the future of our country then today’s energy crisis,” concluded Bass.
