(Washington, D.C.) – As the debate in both chambers heats up over how to reform our healthcare system, former U.S. Rep. Tom Davis (R-VA), President of the Republican Main Street Partnership, urged caution. “Very few issues are as important as healthcare reform,” said Davis. “Congress should be focused on getting it right, not on sticking to an arbitrary time line.”

Late last week, Main Street member U.S. Senator Olympia Snowe (R-ME), made it clear that she believes that Congress shouldn’t be held to an “artificially compressed timeline” on healthcare reform.

Snowe, a key member of the Senate Finance Committee, said, "it is important for us to take the time to work through these issues.” Snowe also said that she believed, “it was overly ambitious to accomplish passing it on the Senate floor before the August recess, because senators and their constituents as well want to be able to review whatever, you know, we do in the Finance Committee along with the product that has been issued by the HELP Committee."

“Main Street members in both chambers of Congress stand ready to work to find solutions to the challenges facing our healthcare system. Let’s take our time and make sure that we get this right – lives are literally depending on us,” concluded Davis.
