Republican Main Street Partnership Honors Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood

(Washington, D.C.) –Last night, the Republican Main Street Partnership honored Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood at their National Dinner with the Amory Houghton Award for Public Service. “During his time in Congress, Amo Houghton built a reputation of independence and pragmatism. Amo Houghton knew the tremendous responsibility of public service. Tonight, we honor former Rep. and current Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood for his commitment to public service,” said former U.S. Rep. and current President of Main Street Tom Davis (R-VA). “Ray LaHood has always been willing to work across party lines to find common sense solutions to the challenges facing our country.”
Before becoming Secretary of Transportation, Ray was a distinguished member of Congress and a member of the Republican Main Street Partnership. Ray served on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee as well as the influential House Appropriations Committee.
“Ray was first elected in 1994, the same year I was first elected,” continued Davis. “During his 14 years in the House, representing the 18th District of Illinois, Ray built an impressive record of legislative success.”
The Dinner was emceed by Rep. Steven LaTourette (R-OH). Secretary LaHood thanked the organization for the award and for its efforts and for the award. “I feel privileged to receive this award,” said LaHood. “Main Street is an important organization and will be a big part of Amo’s legacy.”
The award is named for Amo Houghton, the founder and Chairman of the Board of the Republican Main Street Partnership. Houghton served for 18 years in the House representing New York’s 29th Congressional District and is also the former Chairman of the Board of Corning. Previous recipients of Main Street’s Public Service Award include Senators Norm Coleman (R-MN), Susan Collins (R-ME), Pat Roberts (R-KS), John McCain (R-AZ), former Secretary of Agriculture Ann Veneman, as well as current Main Street President Tom Davis.
“Main Street is proud to honor Secretary LaHood for his life-long commitment to public service and we look forward to continuing to work with members of both parties to find practical solutions to the challenges facing our country today,” concluded Davis.
