(Washington, D.C.) – Today, former U.S. Rep. Tom Davis (R-VA), current President and CEO of Main Street, issued the following statement on the Senate Finance Committee’s on-going markup of healthcare reform legislation:

“Healthcare reform is one of the single most important issues that this Congress – or any Congress before it – has considered. It is more important to get healthcare reform done right, than it is to get it done quickly.

“That’s why yesterday’s largely party line vote in the Senate Finance Committee was so disappointing. Republican members offered a common-sense amendment that would have required the legislation to be posted on the internet for review and required that time be given for budget experts to estimate its full cost before any vote.

“If Democrats are serious about finding solutions to the healthcare challenges that face our country then it is time to put aside arbitrary timelines, engage in a truly bipartisan process, and focus on getting it right.”
