(Washington, D.C.) – The Republican Main Street Partnership celebrates wins by gubernatorial candidates Bob McDonnell in Virginia and Chris Christie in New Jersey. In response to these victories, former U.S. Rep. Tom Davis (R-VA), President of the Republican Main Street Partnership, issued the following statement:

“Yesterday was a great day for the Republican Party and for the people of New Jersey and Virginia. Bob McDonnell and Chris Christie ran terrific campaigns and were able to win in states where Republicans had struggled over the last few cycles. Both candidates were able to unite Republicans, as well as attract independents and disaffected Democrats, by focusing on the issues voters care most about – issues like jobs, the economy and taxes.

“We will win in 2010, even in traditionally blue states, if we run more candidates like Bob McDonnell and Chris Christie.”
