(Washington, D.C.) – Iowa Governor, and Democratic Presidential hopeful, Tom Vilsack is using the “Main Street” name as part of his campaign effort. On his Presidential campaign website (http://www.tomvilsack08.com/page/s/mainstreet) and through e-mails, Governor Vilsack is urging supporters to organize and host “Main Street” meetings.
“We are flattered that Governor Vilsack recognizes the power and value of Main Street’s centrist brand,” said former U.S. Representative Charles F. Bass (R-NH), President and Chief Executive Officer of the organization. “In today’s electoral environment, we can understand why Governor Vilsack would want to associate himself with the centrist values and ideas our organization and members represent. While we recognize that imitation is the highest form of flattery, our name is trademarked and used across the country by affiliated organizations and individuals to describe positive, center-right solutions to the nation’s problems. Accordingly, we politely urge Governor Vilsack to stop using our name and to call us to discuss how his record and views may be in conflict with the Main Street views.”
REPORTER’S NOTE: The Vilsack Campaign’s website conspicuously uses the proper noun phrases “Main Street” and “Main Street Meeting” at http://www.tomvilsack08.com/page/s/mainstreet.
