To Keep Taxes Low the Congress Must Control
Spending and Reform the Budget Process

(Washington, D.C.) –   As taxpayers across the country face the federal tax filing deadline, the Republican Main Street Partnership urges Congress to keep taxes low on American families by controlling spending and reforming the budget process.  “If we are to keep taxes low on hard-working American families the Congress must control federal spending and institute reforms to the budget process,” said current President and CEO of the Partnership and former U.S. Representative Charles F. Bass (R-NH).  “The American people deserve a government that can learn to live within its means, and leadership in Washington to make the tough decisions about how we spend taxpayer dollars.”

Main Street praises the efforts of two of our members, Mark Kirk (R-IL) and Charlie Dent (R-PA), who are working with conservatives like Jeb Hensarling (R-TX) and Mike Pence (R-IN) to build a center-right coalition in the House of Representatives to pass needed reforms to the budget and spending process.

In a recent op-ed Reps. Kirk and Dent, joined by Reps. Hensarling and Pence, accurately pointed out that there are no “easy solutions.”  “Leadership means making tough decisions,” continued Bass.  “We must begin to trim wasteful spending and reform the budget process to ensure that taxpayer dollars are not wasted on special interest driven pork-barrel projects.”

“Main Street and our elected members are committed to fighting for spending and budget reforms that will allow us to keep taxes low on American families and small businesses.  Keeping taxes low is critical to growing our economy and creating jobs,” concluded Bass.
