Roll Call Headline -
"Democrats Form New 527 to Win Back House"

Yet Another Reminder Why Republicans Should
Support Closing the 527 Loophole

(Washington, D.C.) – According to an article in Roll Call, Democrats have formed a new 527 to bolster their efforts to win back the U.S. House of Representatives. "Democrats have launched yet another 527 aimed at distorting and attacking our Republican majority’s record of accomplishment," said Sarah Chamberlain Resnick, Executive Director of the Republican Main Street Partnership. "This new left-wing 527 will join the ranks of the Moveon.org crowd that poured more than $400 million in special interest money into the 2004 election."

This new 527, called Majority Action, intends to target 12 to 15 of the most vulnerable Republican House members in the fall midterms. "The leadership of this latest Democratic attempt to circumvent the campaign finance laws reads like a who’s who of liberal strategists," continued Resnick.

"In recent months, Congress has begun to gain ground in closing a loophole which has has allowed 527 organizations, of both parties, to spend unlimited soft money to influence presidential and congressional elections without complying with campaign finance laws. I hope to see Congress pass the Shays-Meehan 527 legislation, so that the actions of 527 organizations, Democratic or Republican, don't continue to go unchecked," said Representative Mike Castle (R-DE).

"This should serve as yet another reminder why all Republicans should join together to limit the influence of special interest money by closing the 527 loophole in our campaign finance laws," concluded Resnick.
