WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Members of the Republican Main Street Partnership joined Speaker Mike Johnson and House Republican Leadership to call on Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer to immediately end the ongoing government shutdown and bring relief to America’s service members, families, and small businesses.
Main Street Caucus Chair Rep. Mike Flood (NE-01) emphasized the toll on America’s troops:“[Our troops] don't need this stress, especially to satisfy the political future of a New York Senate Leader. This could have been avoided.”
Main Street Caucus Vice Chair Rep. Laurel Lee (FL-15) underscored that the shutdown was entirely preventable: “The reality is simple: this shutdown was entirely preventable. It’s happening because Democrats refused to work with Republicans on our responsible, commonsense funding measure.”
Rep. Nick LaLota (NY-01) urged Senator Schumer to act in the best interests of the country: “15 days into this shutdown, it is time for Chuck Schumer to do what's right and show a fraction of the courage and selflessness our troops display every day.”
Rep. Zach Nunn (IA-03) highlighted the real-world impacts on military families: “This government shutdown does not have to happen. We have a reality before us where 1,500,000 troops... are on pins and needles on whether they can feed their families.”
Republican Main Street Partnership President and CEO Sarah Chamberlain commended the Members for standing up for responsible governance and the men and women who serve our nation. “Main Street Members are fighting to keep our government open, protect our troops, and deliver stability to the families who rely on them. Their leadership represents exactly what it means to govern with integrity and put country over politics.”
The Republican Main Street Partnership and its Members continue to urge Senate Democrats to put politics aside, pass the House’s responsible continuing resolution, and reopen the federal government. The shutdown is inflicting real costs on real people, especially the men and women in uniform who deserve better than political games from Washington.
